Skot Olsen

Skot Olsen

Skot Olsen is an American painter who has been part of the lowbrow/pop surrealism movement since the mid-90s and mainly works with oil on canvas or panel. His work has been featured in galleries worldwide, and in numerous books, magazines, and TV shows.

Raised in New England, Olsen grew up near the ocean, fostering a deep interest in maritime history and lore. This is reflected in his paintings, which often feature nautical scenes with sea monsters and giant squids. Influenced by the Flemish and Baroque Old Masters, mid-century American painters, underground comix, folklore, and medieval woodcuts, his recent work delves into the dark underbelly of perceived reality.

Olsen loves travel, adventure, and history, and enjoys the rich food culture of the Pacific Northwest, where he currently lives in Portland with his wife, Karla. His latest series, “High Strangeness,” will be exhibited at Brassworks Gallery in September 2024.
