AMERICAN ARTIFACTS
Basement Fiction
I have always used photography to record certain scenes in my life. To bookmark the moment for my own faulty memory. My work explores questions regarding our
existence, our culture, and my own life.
American Artifacts was created when I couldn’t travel as I always had to create images. I found an intriguing subject when I discovered these amazingly realistic little plastic toys. The little sculptures encompass what is stylish and acceptable in our time here at the turn of the 21st century. The toys are artifacts from our time which are a compelling look into our culture and society. The photographs themselves are American Artifacts as well. With that in mind, they were created in the most permanent medium photography has to offer. Although difficult and costly to create, platinum prints are the sine qua non of photographic art.
For people who collect photographs, platinum prints are known for their beauty,
archival stability and unique, one-of-a-kind print statement. Platinum prints are made by photographers and favored by collectors because of their tonal range, the surface quality and their permanence. Platinum prints are the most durable of all photographic processes and the platinum group metals are even more stable than gold. It is estimated that a platinum image, properly made, can last thousands of years.
