Justyna Koziczak is a Polish surrealist painter and ceramics maker known for her distinctive dark, dream-like compositions. Based in Wrocław, she earned a master's degree in the conservation of ceramics and glass before deciding to dedicate herself fully to painting. Her work often depicts human figures confronting mysterious creatures within fantastical or symbolic landscapes. Inspired by literature and poetry, Koziczak explores universal themes of human struggle, hope, faith, and confronting the inevitability of death.
Her body of work encompasses both traditional and innovative techniques. She creates detailed compositions primarily using oil on canvas, but she has also developed a unique method of "painting with fire" on metal, often using materials like repurposed doors. Beyond painting, her background in restoration also informs her creation of ceramic sculptures and porcelain objects.
