Dave Lebow is an American representational painter and illustrator known for his imaginative, narrative works influenced by classical realism and pulp illustration. Originally from Oklahoma, Lebow earned his BFA from Boston University and an MFA from CalArts, later studying with notable artists in New York and Los Angeles. After a period working in animation for shows like Showtime's Dexter and the History Channel's Strange Rituals, he returned to painting full-time in 2009. His pieces, which often blend elements of fantasy, drama, and horror, have been featured in prominent galleries and publications such as Hi-Fructose and JUXTAPOZ.
Through his oil paintings, Lebow aims to evoke a strong emotional response by drawing viewers into other-worldly realms populated with women, monsters, and surreal imagery. His meticulous process involves extensive preliminary work, including life drawings and tonal studies, to achieve the detailed, expressive style for which he is known. The artist has been showcased in international exhibitions, including the Halle Saint Pierre Museum in Paris, and continues to teach and paint from his studio in Southern California.
